BlogOur Experience Building a Business During COVID-19

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic and it is definitely safe to say that everyone’s life has been disrupted in one way or another, so much so that many have been reassessing their values. It has been tough for everyone to shift from our previous reality to a new one and for many it has meant reskilling, trying to find a new career path or learning online. 

Like the rest of the world, we have definitely experienced the uncertainty that this situation had brought with it. However, we are also so fortunate to be in an industry that means our business has not been negatively impacted. Most organisations have realised that the only way to survive this situation is by going digital and we are honoured to provide services that can deliver this. Any company that was questioning how digital their company should be before the pandemic, is now just trying to figure out how quickly they can do it. Although we all know change takes time, this disruption has accelerated a number of trends arriving to market. All the digital transformation that was going to occur in the next 2 years has taken place in a matter of months. 

The last year has luckily been a period of growth for us, we have spent it building up our business functions and adding layers to our organisation. Nearly everyone we have hired after the pandemic hit has been affected by it in some way or another. Some had been made redundant, furloughed or had come to the end of their contracts, whilst others were taking career breaks. We are thrilled to have been able to give people an opportunity that they may not have had, had they been in another job. We have been seriously lucky as well, our pool of talent has been amazing and we have brought some extremely gifted people on board. We are building an organisation with a pretty special culture.  

Everyone has really pulled together and we are all working towards a common goal. We are all in a position where we are wanting to work on building something for our own sake’s but also to help put the company in a really good position. Although working from home has its ups and downs, we have been able to make connections and bond with one another because we’re all going through the same thing.  

The volume of applications we have received for each role we have recruited has been unbelievable. Not only is going through such large numbers of CVs time-consuming, but it is quite a shock to the system seeing how many people are looking for work. Moreover, narrowing down candidates is very challenging. However, we know how hard it is applying to jobs and never hearing anything back, not even an acknowledgement. So, we have been making the conscious effort to get back to every individual who has contacted us.  

The last year has been a huge learning curve for us and we look forward to facing whatever 2021 throws at us.
